Engagement Season Is Here!

We always talk about Wedding Season, but there's another season that drives wedding season.  It's Engagement Season!  Have you noticed the signs?

Personally, we're always amazed that every other commercial on TV or Hulu is a diamond or jeweler ad.  The Holidays are here and the future grooms are ready with the bling!

Here's a fun article written by The Wedding Channel that gives us "9 Ways to Know It's Engagement Season." http://tinyurl.com/lk855j6

1. Your Facebook news feed is full of relationship status changes and ring photos.

Whether it's close-up shots of left hands with new rings or the infamous one-armed self-portrait of that newly engaged duo, your news feed is now dominated by diamonds.

2. You compartmentalize your friends into "guests" and "nonguests."

With all your friends making wedding plans, you've started your own mental guest list.

3. You notice every other TV commercial is for Zales, Jared or Kay.

Every other commercial features a proposal scene, and let's face it: You've got all the lines memorized.

4. You and your friends bring up wedding planning like it's the weather.

Whether you're sharing mutual snark over Kim Kardashian's 72-day marriage, debating the merits of Kate Middleton's dress or fantasizing about your reception -- these days, wedding talk is the newest hot topic.

5. You find yourself divvying up vacation days to wedding weekends.

You may not be taking any "just for fun" trips in the near future because most of your vacation days have been used up for traveling to weddings and the related parties. On the upside, you've been able to attend some pretty awesome parties.

6. Your boss has caught you on wedding websites (like WeddingChannel.com) more than once.

The most trafficked time of the week for wedding websites is midweek afternoons. Which means you might want to think about a boss button.

7. You find yourself pausing outside of jewelry stores.

There's no harm in a little window-shopping (just try not to drool on the glass).

8. You've become familiar with wedding terms like "fondant" and "composite bouquet."

You may not be picking out a Sylvia Weinstock cake anytime soon, but you've already got the terminology down. From knowing the pros and cons of fondant vs. buttercream frostings to the merits of a composite bouquet -- a single large flower bouquet made from several smaller flowers or petals -- you've learned a whole new vocabulary.

9. You can't go out to dinner without someone at the next table popping the question.

Another dropped piece of silverware? No, that's just one more person getting down on one knee. If your own romantic dinner for two is constantly being upstaged by polite claps and restaurant-wide "Awws," you know you're in the thick of it. Check, please.
Most marriage proposals (approximately 39 percent) take place between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. But even if you weren't aware of that stat, we're betting you've seen some of the signs.

Do you use Tumblr?

Not long ago, we learned about Tumblr!  Do you have an account?  Do you know what #Tumblr is?  Here's the definition:

is a microblogging platform and social networking website founded by David Karp and owned by Yahoo! Inc. The service allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog.

We love it because we can showcase photos in a set and use hashtags "#" to enable easier searching of content.  Go check out our Tumblr account for more photos!  http://sunsetbeachweddings.tumblr.com/

Beach Wedding Ceremony Music

Many of the packages that Sunset Beach Weddings offers for your destination beach wedding include ceremony music.  You can always add ceremony music to any package as well.  We use digital MP3 players amplified through a battery powered speaker/amp so we don't need the songs themselves, we either have them already or download them as needed.

We encourage our couples to choose music that has significance for them.  Many couples want traditional music.  Songs like the Bridal March, Bridal Chorus, Canon in D, etc.  Some like classical music with a mix of traditional music.  Others choose less conventional music, country, rock, folk, etc.  We enjoy hearing a variety of music.

You can choose music for mingling (about 30 minutes of music (5-6 songs).  Then, processional songs for you and your wedding party.  Last, a song for your recessional (exit)!  The exit song is typically an upbeat song!

Now that you're geared up to choose some great songs, don't over think it!  Your music choices aren't going to make or break your wedding!  Just have some fun with it!

The Beaches of 30a (Santa Rosa Beach) is a great Destination Wedding Location!

People who live in the mid-south have been coming to Panama City Beach and Destin for years.  But have you ever considered the Beaches of 30a for your vacation or destination beach wedding?  Located in between Destin and Panama City Beach, this area is laid back and less developed than most Florida Beach towns.  Also refered to as Santa Rosa Beach or the Beaches of South Walton.

Within this area, each beach town retains it's original name.  So Dune Allen Beach (Gulf Place), Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, Watercolor, Seaside, Seagrove, Seacrest, Alys Beach, and Rosemary Beach.  Sometimes Inlet Beach is included as well.  http://30a.com/

Sunset Beach Weddings is located on historic HWY 30a, and we love performing weddings here.  Give us a call to talk about your Florida Beach Wedding!

Choosing your Florida Beach Wedding date! Did you push back a year because of 2013?

Here's an interesting article about the affect of the superstition of the number 13 on the 2013 wedding season.

Did you delay your wedding to 2014 because of the number 13?  We didn't notice a difference in bookings from 2012 to 2013, but we have noticed an increase in early bookings for 2014 from previous years.  Could this be because of the number 13 or just that the economy is getting better?  It's interesting none-the-less.

An Interesting article on Wedding Planning (10 things Brides forget to do)

Here's an article re-posted from the Huffington Post that's interesting.  Even for smaller destination weddings to the beach, there are some worthwhile tips here.

By Stefania Sainato for Bridal Guide

I'm getting married this weekend — it feels so strange to type that out! — and now that all of the final arrangements have been confirmed, it's been a nonstop party. I took a happy hour cruise with my relatives from Italy who flew in for my wedding and I was treated to massages, brunch and cupcakes with my favorite ladies for my "spa-chelorette" party. Up next: My rehearsal dinner and final fitting with my MOHs.

I could get used to this... in fact, I got so carried away with the revelry that I forgot to do a few things. I neglected to include my fiancé, Jason, and myself in the final headcount (our maître d' couldn't stop laughing) and finalize our transportation itinerary. Oops.

Since I'm suffering from a bad case of "wedding brain," I asked Valerie Gernhauser from Sapphire Events to share the most common tasks/items that brides either forget entirely or handle at the last minute before getting hitched. Follow her advice below, and try not to be too hard on yourself; after all, the most important thing is that you both successfully complete your vows. Everything else is just icing on top of the cake, as far as I'm concerned.

2013-09-06-checklist.jpg

1. Bring your marriage license: "An important part of making it 'official!' Check with the jurisdiction where your ceremony will take place about any deadlines for applying for your marriage license well in advance of your wedding date and also whether a blood test or special documentation is required to complete your application. Start gathering your documents early so that when it comes time to get your license, you have everything you need and can make the process as efficient as possible."

2. Vendor meals: "Be sure you remember to feed the people that are working nonstop to make your day flawless! You'll be expected to give your final guest count to your caterer within two weeks of your day, but don't forget to include the number of vendors you'll have so that the caterer can prepare simple meals for them, separate from your guests. Most caterers will count your vendor meals as half-price, so be sure to include your band members, photographer, videographer (and any second shooters), as well as your planner and their assistants."

3. Favors: "By no means are favors required, but they are a fantastic detail that each of your guests will appreciate! So don't make your favors an afterthought — think about what you'll present your guests as a 'thank-you' for coming at least two months in advance of your wedding date, so that you can place the bulk order of the items in time, and also personalize each one for that finishing touch." (Check out 10 Edible Wedding Favors Your Guests Will Love.)

4. Guestbook and pens: "Include something for your guests to leave their well-wishes for you upon arriving at your reception…Many brides that leave this to the last minute might make a trip to a local book store for a coffee table book that's characteristic of the place where they're getting married or something that is special to the couple. This could be a favorite recipe book for cocktails or a book of historic mansions in the city where your nuptials take place. Also, don't forget the pens!" (Check out 10 Unique Wedding Guest Book Picks.)

5. Invitation suite: "This is one of my favorite details to style and have photographed on the day of the wedding! Brides should remember to pack at least one full invitation suite and any other stationery details (rehearsal dinner invites, shower invites, save-the-dates) that were mailed out during the engagement to bring with them in the bridal prep suite the day of the wedding. If you have beautiful calligraphy and/or special envelope liners, bring more than one set — I always recommend two sets — so that your photographer can shoot the front and back of the invitation in the same frame."

6. Cake knife and toasting flutes: "You may receive these as a gift at your shower, opt to purchase your special set on your own, or use ones that have been handed down to you by parents or family members. When packing up your items to be placed at the reception, be sure to remember to pack your cake knife and toasting flutes (and keep the original packaging to avoid breakage) so that this detail will not be overlooked. Once this item is off your to-do list, you can focus on other things to pack — like your trousseau for the honeymoon!"

7. Tech chargers: "When it comes time to get ready in your bridal suite on the day of the wedding, have your electronics charged and ready to go! If you're planning on using your iPod for any part of the reception music (i.e. your favorite recording of the first dance you and your groom will sway to), make sure you have the right charger and the correct connection to your band's or DJ's sound system. Also, keep your phone charged overnight. You'll want to have it ready to go as soon as you leave for the honeymoon."

8. Passport and identification: "Speaking of the honeymoon, be sure your passport and driver's license are up to date and packed safely in your carry-on luggage. Airport security will not let you get on the plane with expired identification, so be sure you have taken care of this detail one month before your wedding."

After the Wedding
9. Thank-you notes: "It's easy to let things fall by the wayside in the aftermath of your big day as the dust begins to settle, but your thank-you notes to your guests should be sent out no later than two months after your big day. Carve out fifteen minutes each day to dedicate to writing these notes, so that you don't get overwhelmed...Also, don't forget the important people in your life, including your parents, family members, and bridal party that were there with you through the planning from the beginning.

10. Online reviews: "The people that have worked so hard to make your wedding day dreams come to fruition are often forgotten once the big day has passed. The best thank-you you can give your vendors is an honest review online and an email follow up. That is the only way that your vendors can continue to improve the level of service they provide to future brides, so your feedback is very important! Plan to carve out time to review your vendors within six months of the big day."

Santa Rosa Beach (The Beaches of 30a) named Florida's 2013 E City!

Sunset Beach Weddings has a strong online presence with our website - www.sunsetbeachwed.com and www.beachelope.com - as well as on various social medias - www.facebook.com/sunsetbeachwed.  We take pride in contributing to our home town of Santa Rosa Beach being named Google's Florida E-City of the year!

Santa Rosa Beach is also known by other names, like The Beaches of 30a, and The Beaches of South Walton.  These "umbrella" names include all the smaller beach communities within; Dune Allen Beach, Blue Mountain Beach, Grayton Beach, Seaside, Seagrove, Seacrest, Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach, and sometimes included Inlet Beach.

All of these are perfect for your Florida Destination Beach Wedding!

reposted from Google:

The Google eCity Awards recognize the digital capitals of each state. These cities' businesses are using the web to find new customers, connect with existing customers and fuel their local economies. Across the country, businesses that are online expect to grow 40% faster.

Deciding on how many to include in your bridal party.

How many people should be in your bridal party?  The answer to this varies depending on your wedding details.  Is your wedding a destination wedding?  What is your budget?  What are your potential wedding party members budgets?  The rules can be relaxed a bit when having a destination wedding in our opinion.  You don't necessarily need the same number of Bridesmaids and Groomsmen.

How many did you have in your wedding party?  Did you have flower girls and ring bearers?  Did you have a destination wedding?  How did your wedding party handle the extra cost of traveling?

That's a really cool photograph none-the-less!

This Yahoo.com article shows examples of the 2014 wedding dress designs.  Some beautiful, some very non-traditional, and some almost crazy!  Would you wear any of these for your destination beach wedding?

Rain on my Florida Beach Wedding Day?

Will it rain on my wedding day?  In Florida the answer is probably.  Will it rain on my wedding?  The answer to this one is different, probably not!  The weather here is generally very nice from spring to fall.  That said, it can rain, but mostly the threat would be isolated passing summer showers.

Should I have a backup plan in place?  Probably!  If you can a solid backup is nice, but the problem is that solid backup locations generally cost money, alot of money.  Most people won't pay up front for a location they're not likely to use.  We like to use flexibility as our backup plan.  We watch the weather as we get closer (the week of and specifically the day before and morning of) and give you options if we see a weather problem.  Usually a slight move in time is the best course, but a solid backup plan can't hurt.

Ultimately, we want you married on sand, so depending on how bad it is, umbrellas and time changes usually do the trick.  Backup locations would be used in a worst-case-scenario and we can do some make-up photography the next day as needed depending on your/our schedule!  Scheduling your wedding at the beginning of your trip is wise, so that you can use days after for your wedding and photography.  Your guests might consider the same thing.

Remember that you're having an outdoor event!  Rain and wind are always a possibility, it's unrealistic to think that your day will be perfect.  But, don't let it drive you crazy!  Sunset Beach Weddings will worry about it for you, go enjoy the beach!

Beach Wedding Locations in Destin Florida

When couples start planning their destination beach wedding, they sometimes struggle with where to have it!  Most couples want to know the location of their wedding, and then plan everything else around that.  However, we plan in a different order.  We recommend that you choose your location last, after deciding on which beach town you want to visit, and choosing your lodging.  Most times your beach wedding can be performed right where you're staying.

But, an exception to this wedding location question is Henderson Beach State Park in Destin.  Unlike most Florida State Parks, Henderson will reserve you a pavilion right on the beach and a beach location for your wedding.  Some of our couples use the pavilion for their reception as well!  Catering can be brought in, DJ's, and other services.  www.floridastateparks.org/hendersonbeach/

We are licensed and insured to work in the State Parks.  Might be something to consider for your beach wedding!

We reached 500 Facebook Likes last month!

Social networking is important to our destination beach wedding business because it lets us keep in touch socially and artistically with our brides.  Last month, we were approaching the 500 "Likes" milestone on Facebook, so we had a contest to put us over the top!  We asked all the people that liked us to submit their name for a drawing to win a canvas print from our partner, Smugmug.com - we use Smugmug for our photography delivery and presentation.  Our personal site on Smugmug is www.photos.sunsetbeachwed.com

Here's a link to our Facebook Contest: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=518026041578012&set=a.107459649301322.4143.105008406213113&type=1&theater

Two lucky winners were picked on June 1, 2013!  Hope they enjoy their Glicee wrapped canvas prints!  Check out our beach wedding photography at the link above!

Beach Wedding Dress Ideas

The Sunset Beach Weddings brides wear a variety of dress styles, from classical, contemporary, nontraditional, and in all price ranges.  Target stores recently announced that they will be offering wedding dresses at ultra competitive pricing.  What do you think of this trend?  Have you considered Target while dress shopping?  The destination beach wedding is a bit non-traditional compared to a big church wedding, so maybe this is perfect for the vacationing bride on a budget!

Here's a link to a story about Target's plan: http://www.marketplace.org/topics/your-money/and-bride-woretarget-growth-budget-wedding-dresses

Family Photos at the Beach!

Many of the couples that we've married over the years come back to the Emerald Coast beaches each year for family vacation.  We encourage our couples to call us to schedule a family photo session.  We love seeing them again and watching their families grow.

Just like destination weddings, we cover Mexico Beach, Panama City Beach, Santa Rosa Beach (Beaches of 30a), Miramar Beach, Destin, Okaloosa Island (Ft Walton Beach), Navarre, and Pensacola Beach.

Our photography slideshow is a good place to look for examples of family photo sessions we've done in the past.  Go to our website - www.sunsetbeachwed.com - then to the "Photography" section and watch the action!

Where should I get my beach wedding photos printed?

Here's an interesting article/video that Yahoo produced on the best places to get your photos printed.  Our beach wedding packages all include photography and digital images, but what's the best way to get actual prints?  http://tinyurl.com/bmafqya

We offer photo printing for your wedding photos as well through the photo section of our website: www.photos.sunsetbeachwed.com - we use a pro photo lab (Bay Photo) that offers competitively priced high quality prints in all sizes (4x6 up to canvas sizes), finishes (lustre, glossy, metallic), Merchandise (cards, mugs, shirts, magnets, etc), and full size digital downloads straight from your gallery.  Use coupon codes "5off20" for $5 off any $20 order and "20off100" for $20 off any $100 order.

The bottom line is that not all photo processing is created equal.  Might be worth looking for better quality, even if you have to pay a little more.

Ring Bearer & Flower Girls 2012

Our favorite moment at any wedding is the bride's entrance. You can hear the guests gasp almost in unison as she appears on the boardwalk. Right before that magical moment, the ring bearer and flower girls make their way down the aisle. Only about half of our couples choose to include children in the processional. Children can be unpredictable at times, but always adorable. Usually, we discourage giving the children the actual rings, have you ever dropped something in sand?! There are a lot of alternatives that make them feel just as included. We are happy to bring rose petals for the flower girls to fill their baskets as well.

Enjoy this photo sampler of some of the Ring Bearers and Flower Girls last year!  http://tinyurl.com/cd5pm28
